We are very excited to announce this year’s Film Africa closing party is in partnership with Upstairs at the Ritzy’s monthly afro-centric music night and follow the screening of Roaring Abyss; a film by Sheba Sound and Solysombra Recordings, documenting the recording of little known groups and singers all over Ethiopia.
Fresh from Ethiopia, DJ Yonatan warms up the night with original Ethio-funk vinyl, alongside JUJU’s resident host DJ Volta 45.
Sheba Sound will then be showcasing exclusive recordings recently captured in Ethiopia (depicted in the documentary film) and will feature a live PA with guest singers and dancers.
The original recordings have received mixing treatment in the UK from world-renowned producer, Nick Manasseh. This renders dance floor-heavy productions providing a modern lens through which to hear and party to diverse cultural sounds rooted in the ancient lands and people.
The music showcased on the night provides fodder for live sound-system dances in Ethiopia, and has been presented on the much heralded compilation album ‘Out of Addis,’ available under the world music label Paradise Bangkok.
